Hechi
Hechi is a mountainous prefecture in northwestern Guangxi, a land of dramatic karst peaks, gorges and rivers where many ethnic Zhuang, Yao and Maonan communities live. It is famous for Bama, one of the world's noted longevity areas, drawing visitors seeking its clean air, water and slow rural life. The folk-song culture of legendary singer Liu Sanjie is celebrated across the region. Local foods lean on fragrant Bama pig, scented beef and sour bamboo shoots. Home to Guangxi's highest-altitude airport and a humid subtropical climate, Hechi offers striking scenery well off the usual tourist trail.
