Foshan is a historic manufacturing hub in Guangdong's Pearl River Delta, immediately west of Guangzhou. It is the ancestral home of martial-arts legends Wong Fei-hung and Bruce Lee, and remains a center of Cantonese opera and lion dance culture. The city dominates China's ceramics, home-appliance and furniture industries, hosting giants like Midea and the huge Lecong furniture market. Its Shunde district is celebrated nationwide as a capital of Cantonese cuisine, especially delicate dairy and freshwater-fish dishes. With an extensive metro linked to Guangzhou, Ming-era temples and Lingnan gardens, Foshan blends deep tradition with modern industry.
