Anshan

Anshan is a major industrial city in central Liaoning, long famous as the 'Steel Capital of China' for the giant Anshan Iron and Steel Group (Ansteel), one of the country's oldest and largest steelmakers. It sits amid rich iron-ore deposits and hot-spring resorts, with the scenic Qianshan ('Thousand Mountains') Buddhist and Taoist park just south of the city. Anshan is also the center of China's jade trade, with nearby Xiuyan producing much of the nation's carved jade, showcased in the world's largest jade Buddha. The Tanggangzi hot springs have drawn visitors, including emperors, for centuries. As the region diversifies beyond heavy industry, tourism and jade craftsmanship remain local strengths.
