ℹ️ About

A historic tower crowning Helan Hill in northern Ganzhou, first recorded before 779 CE in the Tang dynasty and rebuilt under its present name in 1147 during the Southern Song. It became a landmark of Chinese literature after the poet Xin Qiji wrote his famous lyric here in 1176, mourning the suffering caused by Jurchen invasions from its heights. The current reinforced-concrete structure dates to a 1984 reconstruction after earlier wooden versions were repeatedly destroyed by storms and war, and it now overlooks the Gan River and Ganzhou's old town.
