The largest monastery in Shigatse and the traditional seat of the Panchen Lamas, founded in 1447 by Gendun Drub and belonging to the Gelug school. The Jamba (Maitreya) Chapel holds a gilded Future Buddha statue about 26 metres tall, and the complex contains the tombs of successive Panchen Lamas.
